Lindley Park neighborhood - 10am - 2 Hours
Malcolm Miller
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

I enjoyed this class so much! David was patient, kind, funny, and dumbed it down without making you feel stupid. He was a wonderful instructor and I took away a lot from this class. I was apprehensive at first because I have never taken a class like this before but it was super beneficial and I would take another one. I will be looking for future classes to help my growth as a photographer. Thank you for offering.

Great intro into portrait photography. All questions answered, terminology explained and concepts practiced in real time. Instructor was instrumental in portraying the model while at the same time helping us to visually see the ideas behind posing from the viewpoint of both model and photographer. Thanks Dave!

As always with David Ross, I come away with far more than expected or anticipated. The posing, yes, useful. But metering on grass shadows being analogous to an 18% gray card, that's genius.

Dave really demonstrated the basic skills in protraiture. The hardest part is learning how to position people. It's a lot harder then you would think, but the more you proactice and get used to it, the more natural it feels. Also learned on shooting people facing the sun vs. backlit by the sun, shooting in the shade, etc. I highly recommend this class!!

I've taken four semesters of photography classes at GTCC (our local community college) and numerous sign-up equivalents to Click events, yet I honestly learned more useful knowledge in two hours with David Ross than all the latter. Nor is this hyperbole. I'm an engineer and an academic. The guy is that good, both at his profession, and especially as a teacher.

Excellent! There were quite a few moments where I discovered things about flash photography that I'd previously had no idea that I could do with my flash. This was my second class and am already looking forward to the next one, which I'm already signed up for!

I've had my DSLR for years but had never used it much. I would get too frustrated trying to figure out how to use it, and it felt like a waste of time fiddling with all the buttons and stuff. My images were almost never exposed right. David helped me learn what some of those 'gizmos' do, what they mean, etc. By the end of class, my images were much improved. I still need to practice more, which I'm looking forward to doing, but the class really helped a lot. I've already signed up for a couple more classes because I know I'll be well taught!

I immediately pulled off the side of the road and grabbed my gear. I am a follower of Gary Gough, a fine art photographer on YouTube. He said one way to learn is to copy someone else's work to learn and get better. So that's what I did. LOL. Using his teachings I combined long shutter speeds with ND filters that allowed me t

Wildlife photography requires a lot of patience, some know how and some luck. You'll often spend hours hiking around, stalking or just sitting and waiting for something to happen. It can be frustrating, boring and often pretty miserable. But every now and again you get a lucky break. I found this magnificent Great Blue Heron, perfectly perched right near the parking lot for the lake!!

I loved the detail on this lizard. However, the background was very similar to the lizard body colour. In Lightroom I picked a background preset which toned it down somewhat, but not enough. So created a mask and turned down the background even further. A little ?pop? on the lizard skin and I was finished. I hope you like it.
